Meet John Ruekert
My name is John Ruekert and I'm one of the Peer Mentors for ATS in CLA. I'm
a sophmore this year and I have not declared a major yet. Although I
haven't declared a major, I am interested in studying, and possibly
majoring or minoring in Sociology, Anthropology, American History and
Business. I was a student in ATS last year and I found it to be extremely
helpful in guiding me through my first year at the U.
When I'm not at school I love to follow sports and play pick up games when
I can. My favorite sports are football, baseball, basketball, and MMA
(though I dont follow MMA as closely). I have recently become interested in
cooking in my freetime also. Because of my academic and social interests,
along with my new hobby of cooking, my goal for the future is to graduate
from the U, attend culinary arts school, and open a restaurant in Southern
California. In the meantime I'll be working hard to obtain my degree.
College is an amazing time to learn about yourself. In my freshman year
there were many times when I felt overwhelmed, intimidated, "out of my
element," and unsure of my purpose. But there were also many moments when
I felt inspired, driven, focused, and flat out ecstatic! It's because of
the negative, anxious emotions, though, that I was able to feel the
positive, confident emotions. Freshman year is not all peaches and cream,
but I think if you stick with it through the ups and downs you will be a
stronger person in the end.
